Scores Announced for Day One of 18th Annual Baltimore City Public Schools Basketball Academy Presented by State Farm

(Baltimore, Maryland – January 24, 2014) – The Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) Basketball Academy just released scores from Day Two of the Academy, a high school tournament that combines academics + athletics to prepare the state’s top basketball players for college.

4:15 pm         70-45         Eastside vs. Dunbar (G)
5:30 pm         66-57         Eleanor Roosevelt vs. Patterson (B)
6:45 pm         80-41         Lake Clifton vs. John F Kennedy (B)

9:15 pm         60-57         City College vs. Riverdale Baptist (B)

Team in BOLD is winner

The BCPS Basketball Academy is the largest and most-successful program of its kind, which immerses high school athletes in academics, financial literacy, Rites of Passage, gang awareness, bullying prevention and competitive basketball games. Tickets to the Academy cost $10 per day. Children under five years old are admitted free. Advanced tickets can be purchased at participating schools or on the day of at Morgan State University Hill Field House.

Why: Over the years, the Academy has awarded over $106,000 in scholarships and has prepared Maryland NBA stand-outs Will Barton, Rudy Gay and Gary Neal, among others. In 2014, the Basketball Academy will reinforce its motto, “Academics + Athletics equals a Win/Win Combination,” while adding additional elements to the program, including an essay contest, $10,000 3-Point Shoot-Off and competitive matches that expose the area’s most talented student athletes to each other and the broader community.
