Scores Announced for Day One of the 20th Annual Baltimore City Public Schools Basketball Academy

(Baltimore, Maryland – January 14, 2016) – The Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) Basketball Academy just released scores from today’s Academy, a high school tournament that combines academics + athletics to prepare the state’s top basketball players for college.

3:00 pm         44 – 41         Poly vs. Milford Mills (Girls)
4:15 pm         58 – 30         Western vs. Bell (G)
5:30 pm         57 – 53         Dunbar vs. Theodore Roosevelt (Boys)
6:45 pm         49 – 46         Friends vs. Woodlawn (B)
8:00 pm         61 – 51         Randallstown vs. Edmondson-Westside (B)

Team in BOLD is winner

The BCPS Basketball Academy is the largest and most-successful program of its kind, which immerses high school athletes in academics, college admissions orientation, SAT prep, Rites of Passage, gang awareness, bullying prevention and competitive basketball games. Tickets to the Academy cost $10 per day. Children under five years old are admitted free. Advanced tickets can be purchased at participating schools or on the day of at Morgan State University Hill Field House.

The Academy is from January 14-16 with special 20th Anniversary tributes throughout the weekend.

Why: Marking this, as it’s 20th year, the Academy has awarded over $115,000 in scholarships and has prepared Maryland NBA stand-outs Will Barton, Rudy Gay and Gary Neal, among others. In 2016, the Basketball Academy will reinforce its motto, “Academics + Athletics equals a Win/Win Combination.”
